Hi Tuesday! I am coming to you in a rather odd place today. I'm a bit sicky with a slight sore throat and congestion. I am taking it easy and resting after work until theladylu arrives for our adventure in the big city on Thursday!! On top of that, work has been exceptionally draining and overwhelming this week. I have been feeling my deficiencies in my job and wanting to push harder than I am ready to. My boss is a brilliant mentor, but brutally honest with a side of foot-up-my-ass. On top of that, I have a CRAZY blister on the ball of my foot which is very painful and thwarting my workouts for the week. I am restless and tired at the same time.
Another interesting occurrence happened yesterday as I decided to break things off with a good man I have been seeing for the last month or so. I have known in my gut for the last couple of weeks that it's not a good fit for me, but was just hoping it would smooth itself out. It did not. Henceforth the breakup email was written and sent. Yes, email. I decided that was the best route to take because we had a date planned for tonight and I couldn't think of a good way to break up with someone on a date. Before, during or after dinner? Nothing sounded reasonable, not to mention that I didn't want to break it off in person because I felt it unnecessary considering we were not in a committed relationship. Earlier that day, I had to let another fine gentleman down via email, so Monday was the day of me breakin hearts! Who'd have thought?
C said it best when she told me I was going cold turkey from men for awhile. And that is exactly what I am doing. I am a bit melancholy that nothing has panned out, but I believe that there is something beautiful in store for me and when it presents itself, I will jump off and not look back.

Rudimentary
Hello friends! Happy Friday! I am pleased to announce that I am 4 1/2 hours away from a lovely weekend. Aside from the ol' schoolio, I can rejoice in peace, libations, exercise, makin out and some jovial friend time. This is the first week I feel like I am getting into a groove here. I have officially started my workout plan and thus far it is shaping up to be exactly what I thought it would. I sent theladylu a text after my run on Tuesday expressing my gratitude for this new routine. Not only did it feel fantastic to get active, but I run down 5th Avenue from 115th Street to 55th, which takes me along the cobblestone walkway next to Central Park and past museum row. It's a bit surreal to be honest. Y'know, jogging to tunes and looking up at the Guggenheim and the Met like it's just an average part of my day.....and it is!
This week has been productive and quiet. I have stayed at home the last two nights with the roomie and it has been awesome to sit around and talk whilst sipping on bevvies. My loneliness is curtailed with her presence and it has brought me a sense of belonging in the apartment, albeit -very- empty apartment. Hopefully, we will be changing that soon.
My sea legs are getting stronger and I feel like I am finally moving toward being truly settled. My bestest will be here for the following weekend and I can't wait to show her the city the way she needs to see it- with me, duh! It will be an amazing time, full of laughter, exploration and shared joy of the precious moments we have together. Now that, is perfect and simplicity personified.

Trippin'
Hi friends! I'm back after a fun filled weekend that included an impromtu road trip weekend to Newport, Rhode Island. I think I took a subconscious cue from theladylu and found myself some adventure too. Friday night was a blast as I went to see a fav band of mine from Gainesville (REPRESENT!) at the Bowery Ballroom. Not only was the Holopaw show terrific, but I got to revel in the nostalgia of my old home. It made me miss Tally in a very deep and yearning type of way. Luckily, I quickly snapped out of it when reflecting upon my immediate surroundings. Saturday included a Vespa, the Cyclone, new friends and corndogs. During the evening, a plan was hatched to leave for RI in the morn. Four hours later, I was back awake (barely) and on my way to a new state with new friends that I had met 12 hours prior. How's that for adventure?! The trip north was quiet, but we soon arrived at a beautiful beach called Watch Tower Hill. Lovely coves and mansions dotted the coast line and I inhaled every briny ocean scent I could muster. We later arrived at a bbq where I devoured ribs and booze til I had to lay down for a break. The next day, we went cliff walking on the picturesque Newport coast and sailing on a 1926 vintage schooner. The feeling of being on a true sailboat in a pristine bay was almost too much happy to handle.
Let's hope for a good week to top off the weekend!

Plotting a course
Hiya, Tuesday! I woke up rather chipper this morn since I work late on Tuesdays. Sleeping in until 8:30am is a gift indeed. Although I stay at work until 7, I don't mind the late nights since my days are so packed with assignments. My class has started out well and my students seem pumped for the semester, which makes me more accepting of teaching the same curriculum for the 5th time in a row. I think the idea of extra money with just a few additional hours of work a week will keep me enthusiastic for the next 9 weeks.
What I'm REALLY excited about my new workout plan that I have devised for nights when I don't have a pre-set agenda. I think I will be able to begin tomorrow and Sir Phil will just have to deal with me being sweaty and less than cute. The plan: pack my backpack with workout clothes and change at the office. Put all of my day clothes and purse in the backpack and set out on foot. This is a great way for me to not only explore the city, but it is also a simple remedy to exercising in the dark without having to join a gym. Granted, once the weather turns, I will have to become a member at the local YMCA, but until then, the streets are mine. This will be good.

soulful convergence
Hi, Monday! Although I wasn't nearly prepared for the weekend to come to a close, I am glad to get on with my week. As promised to myself, I had a date with my city. I postponed it to Saturday since I ended up going to grab some amazing Mexican noms with a couple of my buds and enjoyed a brew after at our local watering hole. Saturday was spectacular outside and after working at the office, I decided I deserved a reward. Dressed in my workout clothes, I headed on foot to Central Park. While I didn't have a goal in mind other than spending time in the Conservatory, a plan quickly formed and I had no choice but to abide by it. I decided to walk/run the length of Central Park and make my way through some of the trails. It was the best day I have spent in the city since living here. Not only did it rekindle my awe of this place, it reminded me that exercise can no longer be ignored. I am back, folks! Couple that with a fantastic Sunday full of friends, brunch and laughter; I feel rejuvenated, excited and full of wander lust. It's about damn time.
As an aside, I deleted my online dating profile so I can give myself a chance to truly connect to friends, places and my work. I just wasn't ready for it and my need for external validation got the better of me. Like I said before, if God wants me to get laid, it will brought forth. I am going to focus on myself and my relationship with my new life. I am no longer working from a place of deficit, trying to fill all the holes with distractions. I have rolled up my sleeves and have begun to build my empire from the foundation up. It will take time, but I willing to give patience a try.

we built this city
Hello, Friday, you feel like Tuesday. So, I'm working all weekend because I start facilitating a new class Sunday and I am horribly backed up at work on account of being out sick. Part of me is glad to be refocusing my energy into productivity, while the other resents the hell out of not really having any plans to speak of. People are busy, in relationships or have just plain vanished. The resulting feeling is one of loneliness. Much of my time has been spent going on 1st, 2nd and 3rd dates that have gone absolutely nowhere. In the interim, I have lost touch with some folks and I am fully absorbing the effects today. I have been alone a majority of the week, but not the rejuvenating alone time we all need. It was quarantined alone time while I was physically ill. Needless to say, I am a bit restless and in need of some friend time. Roomie who was supposed to come home after days of prolonged absence is doing homework at her boyfriend's apt. tonight. I know, I think it's weird too.
Solitude is something that I am growing accustomed to. Back in Tally, I romanticized the idea of me and the city. The city and me. It sounded delicious because I have had such a love affair with this place for so many years. Now I am here and I think I need to get back to my illicit affair. Tonight, I am going on a date with my paramour. The possibilities are endless and we'll see where my feet take me from here.

She lives!
Well, more like, she exists currently at 67.6% of her normal capacity!! Yes, friends, it has been a doozie. I was dealt a bit of the strep and left the house this beautiful morn for the first time in 4 days. First thing I did on this glorious day? Hopped on the 3 and headed to the office. Not the celebration I had hoped, but I have never been so happy to be at work. Around other humans. And no longer shuffling around my empty apartment in old pjs, slippers and a robe. With crazy hair and dishevled memories of what I used to look like. I could go on like this, but you get my drift.
One thing that impending death or wishing for said death does is provide some perspective. While isolated in my ivory tower (actual building is ivory with columns), I came to some pretty importante conclusions about some stuff.
1. I have got to stop burning the candle at both ends. No more goin' out like I have a month left on this earth. If God wants me to get laid, then it will be brought forth. I'm done chasin' strange for the time being.
2. I need a rug.
3. I have got to focus on the ol' jobby job and get better with my time management. I have felt inadequate in my roll and I know it's because I haven't been entirely focused. (see item #1)
4. I need to get a hobby or join a group of some kind in an effort to meet people of like mind. I am starting this by conducting research on things I'm interested in. Namely, outdoor adventure type groups.
5. I have got to get my computer fixed. It is beyond annoying to have it freeze and lose all my junk repeatedly over the course of an hour. This is especially important because I start teaching a new semester on Sunday and need my shit to operate. Also, refer to #'s 1 and 3- it's all tied in.
I missed you all! Hope your days are fantastic!
