Summa time

Hi folks, I'm back! It is Tuesday and I am starting my work week pumped and ready to attack after a long weekend. I had a great time and did some summer activities that were much needed. Saturday was beach day with some gal pals. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Brighton Beach is also known as "Little Russia by the Sea". Russian storefronts as far as the eye can see and teeny tiny speedos, as it turns out. What is it with eastern Europeans and banana hammocks? So confusing. Aside from the obvious lack of eye candy, the ocean was just what this Florida girl needed. This was the first time in my life I have been at the beach and felt like I was at a ball game. Every minute or so there was someone yelling about pretzels, beer, water, nut crackers (we never did figure out what those are) and jello shots. This is the beach, New York City style. Panhandlers and loiterers welcome!

Moving on.

I have been extremely social lately and decided that I needed some alone time Sunday and Monday. Without getting into tedious details, I have been spreading myself thin by trying to meet the needs of friends, my job and what my spiritual path requires of me. Hence, the last two days have been a SATC marathon, home cookin' and lazing around in general. Sometimes you just have to slow down and appreciate creature comforts and the sweet embrace of solitude. I feel spoiled.

For Lu

Considering that, all hatred driven hence,

the soul recovers radical innocence

and learns at last that it is self-delighting,

self-appeasing, self-affrighting,

and that its own sweet will is Heaven's will;

She can, though every face should scowl

and every windy quarter howl

or every bellows burst, be happy still.

Bullheaded

Hey there Monday! I have been woefully neglecting this here blog on account of being so busy with work. This weekend was a mixture of strange events and fantastic joy. I seem to be in high demand from folks lately and I don't know why. Two who need job advice, one who is in need of a soul shower and another in crisis. I am also trying to remedy another situation with someone who is incommunicado for some dumbass reason. Needless to say, I'm a tad emotionally drained. I don't feel stressed or frazzled with the friends in need, but the stress is manifesting itself in the situation with the person that I can't reach. This person has something of mine that she doesn't want, but won't even talk to me so I can get it back. "It" is a very special kitteh and I am kicking myself for allowing him to be given to her in the first damn place. I didn't listen to my gut and now I am dealing with the consequences. I have taken a valuable lesson from all of this and for that I am grateful. I need to pay attention to the red flags and listen to myself at all times. In the cat situation, I took what seemed to be the easier option because I was so overwhelmed with relocating to NYC. Note to self: if your intuition is telling you how to proceed, listen and abide. Don't ignore your internal GPS because you want to take the easier road to travel by because in the end, you always have to back track.

I'm so stubborn sometimes. Let's blame it on my Taurean nature, eh?

Tuesday is in need of inspiration.....

For what it’s worth: it’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.

~ Benjamin Button

I found this quote on a blog that I follow and thought it was worth the repost. Read it, drink it, repeat.

Weekend Roundup

Where the hell did my weekend go? I woke up this morning and realized that it is, in fact, Monday. Le sigh. The good news is I'm going to see.....wait for it......Interpol on Wednesday night. Holla! I sort of love them- enough to travel to Jersey.

The weekend was rad, hence my lamentation of Monday. I saw 3 bands that are awesome for free, did a midnight run in a fountain on my walk home (I may or may not have been intoxicated), played with my new girlfriend, ran around Prospect Park (literally the entire park- I'm sore), loaded up on goods from the farmer's market, cooked, cleaned, drank and got laundry done. Relaxation is for suckers.

Now if only I could find the inspiration to tackle my work weeks with as much fervor. I am going to work on that one.
