Happy Friday! Oh God I'm so excited for the weekend. I have a loop of "Everybody's Workin for the Weekend" playing in my internal juke box. Terrible song, but so true. One of the unique things about living in NYC is that every minute of every day is consumed. Spare time exists in very sporadic bursts, but is ultimately nonexistent. I didn't believe that was possible before I moved here, but it is scientific fact. Even on nights that I don't have plans, I still have a bunch of things to accomplish as soon as I leave work- groceries, laundry, errands, etc. It's exhausting. I say all of that to validate my l.o.v.e. for Saturday and Sunday. These days I claim as my own and I can do whatever the heck I want. I can make plans with others or I can spend the day doing anything I please. Tomorrow's agenda: wake up early, make breakfast and go for a city trek. I have decided to walk from my hood to the Manhattan Bridge and back. Then, Sonic Youth and a picnic in the park with some friends. Perhaps Sunday will be a beach day, weather permitting. My inner Florida girl is screaming for the ocean and she cannot be ignored much longer.
Time is an element that escapes us far too often. One minute we are celebrating New Year's and before we can take inventory, the summer is wrapping up. Time has a way of moving at a faster pace here and I feel like I get swept up in its current and rarely take time to just stop. I plan to spend the rest of this summer embracing that these are lazy days and take my time to enjoy them. The season will turn soon and I don't want to miss my opportunity to do the things that I love during this time of year. Tonight is a concert in the park. Blankets, wine in plastic cups, fireflies and music dancing through the night air. That's what summer means to me.
TGIF.
